About Everspring
Everspring is a small, independent game studio run by Gino Cattuzzo. It makes free games that fit into a day: a tower-defense road in about fifteen minutes, a puzzle in two to five. Every game plays in a web browser with nothing to install and no account, and every game is also on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
The games
Everspring: Immortal Defense
The studio's first game and its namesake. The elves of the Sylvan Reach are immortal only while the Everspring flows, and Warlord Gorrak wants to drink from it, so that his orc army could never die. You hold four roads with six lines of towers and twelve specializations, command the warden Aelith, call down spells, and, once the roads are won, push on into Endless, Heroic roads and a new Daily Trial every day. The beginner's guide covers it all.
Rill
A daily path puzzle. You water a field: one channel of water must reach every plot, passing the numbered wells in order. There is one new field a day, the same for everyone, plus a Ladder of levels that never runs out and a 90-second Blitz. Every field is generated on your device and checked by a solver so that it has exactly one solution. The strategy guide teaches the techniques.
How the games are made
Both games are written from scratch in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, so the same code runs in any modern browser and, wrapped in a thin native shell, as the iPhone and iPad apps. There is no game engine and no game server: your progress is saved on your own device, which is also why the games keep working offline once they have loaded. Rill builds its puzzles on the device from a seed — the date, for the daily field — so everyone gets the same puzzle without anything being downloaded.
Changes are driven by how people actually play. Both games send anonymous gameplay statistics, such as which roads are played and where runs end, and that is what decides what gets rebalanced or explained better next. Everspring's tower and enemy numbers have been retuned many times since launch; the guides on this site are generated from the games' source so that they always match.
How the games are paid for
The games are free, and nothing in them is for sale. The iPhone and iPad apps are supported by advertising from Google AdMob:
- Everspring shows a small banner below the board while you defend a road, and offers optional rewarded videos — extra starting gold, double Essence, or a second chance on a lost road — that only play if you choose them.
- Rill shows no ads during your first puzzles. After that there is a small banner below the field, and full-screen ads appear only between Ladder levels or after a Blitz run, never in the middle of a puzzle and never between solving the daily field and sharing it. Extra hints and streak restores can be had for an optional ad.
In a web browser, both games currently show no ads at all.
Your data
Neither game asks for a name, an email address or an account. Progress lives on your device. Anonymous gameplay statistics help balance the games, and in Everspring you can switch them off in Settings. Ads in the apps are requested as non-personalized. The full details are in each game's privacy policy: Everspring and Rill.
